Only loading 4-5 people in my games

Hey guys,

I got a new router, one of those mac time capsule things, and now I can only load like 4-5 players when i host. I used to easily load 8. Is it perhaps i don't have all ports open correctly? or would they not even be able to enter my game if that was the issue? Any ideas would be very much welcomed : )

If you can successfully play full games with some people but not a full 8 players then that's definitely odd. Maybe your new router has some additional firewalling that is strict and blocks incoming traffic from the random client port numbers.

To help you understand this a bit more... people who join your game send OUT data on THEIR ports, which are different from the EE hosting ports. When this EE data arrives at your router, it ENTERS on YOUR port numbers 33334, 33335, 33336. Pretty much all routers block incoming traffic on unknown ports. Even though you have them forwarded, your router could also be blocking traffic based on the data's source port.

Another possibility is that your router is at its connection limit. If there's a lot of computers on one router all doing stuff at the same time, then the router's connection table is full and it won't allow more connections. The thing is, I don't think your problem would be consistent if this was the case.

The third possibility is that there's a small connection limit for individual port numbers, or computers, or something stupid like that.


TL;DR: Try your old router again, and if it works then you know for sure it's your new router. That way you'll know if it has some shitty configurations or firewalls that you need to change.

Thanks for the help guys. Tool and I ended up figuring out if i click start in a game and about right away... then click start immediately again , it loads. lol. So its a little like poor mans engineering or something but it works!

i have a similar problem. all ppl will load in my game but when the next screen arrives(u know the one with the ship on it), most of the time when i have anything over 6 ppl it will stay there till 2 ppl alt f4 or some shit. as in i cant have more than 6 ppl connected to my comp... its loaded a few times with 7 but its touch and go. very frustrating at times

In my last post above^^^ about should be abort. Thus... if i click start in a game and abort right away... then click start immediately again , it loads. So see if you have any success with that slip
