Orange Las Vegas, gray rainy Los Angeles, and the emptiness in Ryan Gosling’s eyes. Villeneuve made a worthy sequel to a classic — where the focus isn’t on action, but on a slow descent into the loneliness of a replicant searching for meaning. The scene with the giant hologram in the rain etches itself into your memory for a long time. The soundtrack pounds your ears with bass, yet you can’t tear yourself away. True big-screen cinema for those who like to think.
