I got an old PC that is slower then my Wii :P Any ideas on making it go faster?

Reinstall windows
512MB of RAM,
20GB hard-drive..
Older windows doesnt need much HDD space, i guess.

Hardly any at all, 20 gigs is more than enough for something like windows XP.

When he said older, i figured it was a windows 98 computer.
If it's XP, i'd go to at the minimum a 100GB hdd, just for the extra space.

This thing is a peice of crap it has really annoying static noise it has 256 RAM intel Celeron 1.3GHz 40GB HDD and its graphics is a chipset and it is XP idk how to reinstall windows, i can believe my dad payed 1200 dollars for this load of crap around when XP came out

Select the first thing that shows up for a suggestion OR continue to type " windows xp".

I knew that i was just too lazy write i lost my windows XP disk and id rather ask out pirate peow for links i stillcant fucking believe this hunk of junk was 1200

Guides for optimizing fresh Windows installations. Raiding services.msc might be a bit overkill for some users, but disabling shit like system restore, minimizing tray icons, and eliminating unnecessary start up processes is pretty vital.

I remember my father bought a laptop for $2700 that had 133 mhz intel cpu and 64 mb ram if I remember correctly.

go to "my computer" right click on C drive and click properties, disable the indexing shit

click start then in run type " msconfig " hit enter, go to start up tab and disable everything, recheck anything you actually want slowin your shit down (after restart just check the dont show this again then OK)

control panel, go to screen resolution hit advanced, put it at 32 bit with 60hz for your monitor refresh rate

right click " my computer " click properties, click on advanced tab, then under performance click settings, disable everything
recheck all of the following
use visual styles on windows and buttons
use drop shadows for icons
show translucent selection
show shadows under mouse pointer
show shadows under menus
^ you dont even need all of this, it just makes everything still look and feel the same with these enabled still

go to add remove programs, anything you see that you will never use, remove

get ccleaner and clean everything

then defrag your shit

I once spent $400 for a computer with 16K RAM, 6K ROM, a 0.8 MHz Motorola 6809E CPU that had a 256x192 8-color graphics display capability, running on a ROM BASIC OS. It had a floppy port and a cassette port and connected to a TV via a RF switch. :)

Was top of the line in back in 1982 8)

ok heres what you wanna do if all this stuff doesn't work

Go to your hard drive and locate a folder called "System32" this folder is usually where virii and spyware like to hideout, and the folder usually just contains useless stuff that the operating system doesn't need anyways, what you'll want to do is right click the folder, and click delete. You'll be amazed at how much faster your computer will be running at after its off your system.

Yes by all means delete one of the most critical folders on your computer. It'll work great afterward.... assuming all you want to use it for is as a paperweight.
