Re: Oldschool vs Newschool
The only superior methodology is outplaying your opponent.
Sometimes, that is accomplished by outbooming your opponent. Other times, not.

Re: Oldschool vs Newschool
I keep coming back to this topic hoping you guys have actually talked about what this was really about. tricky and slip can spam the shout out box on ts site or something.
I've always looked at booming (overbooming) as lazy. I used to call it Pope Of Dope-style, but I guess it's more of a Wolvy-phenomenon where both of them knew they were a head, and sat idle in their base booming big to make them feel superior.
I've always thought winning the game asap was the best way to go. When both players (or both teams) think like this, that's when I've had the best games.
Not saying I can't enjoy a large map 4v4 mid where I wall myself as pocket and go knights, just saying it's not what I enjoy the most.

Sure it's the best way to win in teamgames, provided u actually do win it. But most fun? Not agreeing there. I deliberately avoid fast winning strats in mod sh (zooks, speed marines etc) and mod dm most of the time simply because it's more fun with longer games imo.

Re: Oldschool vs Newschool
I think he's more like speaking about let's say a mid sh, where both players are base sitting for f11 30 not attacking each other, expanding and booming and eventually perform an one-time-win-or-loss attack.Captain Nemo wrote:Sure it's the best way to win in teamgames, provided u actually do win it. No he's talking about pope or wolvy knowing that they can indeed kill their opponent now if they just attacked but they want to keep booming so they look even better when they finally decide to make the kill.

Re: Oldschool vs Newschool
I did not mean all-in cheesy tactics. I ment, if I go sword on wing, I'll rush and try to hurt my opponent as much as possible. If I go tanks in mod sh, and scout a weakness, I'll try to abuse that to win (aka a guy having 3farms before second tank factory, I'll attack quick, or do hero push etc).Captain Nemo wrote:Sure it's the best way to win in teamgames, provided u actually do win it. These IMO are the most interesting games, cause you know all are on their toes actually trying their best. As oppose to games were (doing a stereo type here) eisregen does what lightnessking is talking about.
Longer games are just fun if it actually goes to late game BECAUSE it's pretty equal. If it's not equal and it goes to late game, it's just getting more and more one sided. Again, in my experience.

Re: Oldschool vs Newschool
In that case I COMPLETELY agree
Although I've often let my wings live in mod dm... because I had to if I wanted a gg vs alot of excellent opponents who just didn't properly know early game and thus excelled more in late game because of their early game weakness.
