Windows 10 - EE compatibility?|Tested and it worked for me
Hello,
I just got my reserved copy of Windows 10 downloaded and ready for installation. I am still reluctant to go ahead with the installation fearing that EE might not work then.
Has anyone tested whether EE is compatible with Windows 10?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"WARNING!
Windows 10 is available soon. It is not guaranteed that it will support Empire Earth! If you have Windows 7/8 and EE is working, consider waiting a bit before upgrading to Windows 10."

I wouldn't install win10 yet, I would wait.

Yes, I saw that which is why I didn't install it.
So if anyone tested it, can you please provide us with feedback.
And thanks for your reply arntzen.

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
On another forum I heard some say that every game that worked for them on 7 worked on 10. But I'm not sure if any of the games they tried were from 2001.

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
I must admit that I haven't found the time yet to test it myself. Windows 10 brings the new DirectX 12, thus I expect more problems for the transition 8 --> 10 than 7 --> 8. In the guestbook there is already one guy saying that his Windows 10 doesn't run EE. So I'd rather be careful with updating too soon.
Windows 7 is and stays the best OS to play EE.

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
I installed W10 and I can't play :/
Game freezes and crashes all the time.
It has to be because of the w10 upgrade because my game ran smooth before i updated

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
That's bad news, but thanks for informing us Aksel.
Now in order to try and fix this, did u try all the usual stuff, eg compatibility, and those check boxes ..
Also from what I understood from your post, the game did start up and you can start an actual random game inside which runs fine (all map objects clearly visible) until the game randomly freezes and crashes. Is that correct?
If so, does doing the compatibility stuff change anything about it?
Hope you have another PC/laptop so you can play EE there..

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
The game itself randomely freezes. Sometimes I'm able to enter a game, but after 5-10 secs the game freezes and i have to log out, or shut down to be able to get out of it.El_Kebeer wrote:That's bad news, but thanks for informing us Aksel.

Sometimes it'll crash in menus/on startup etc.
Yes, i have tried all compatability settings and changed my driver settings as well. Found no solution yet.
I'll have to take a break from playing, and i knew it was very likely that this would happen when upgrading so no hard feelings :p

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
Finally got the game running smoothly...There are some issues, but atleast it is playable.
This was the game before, buildings/resources etc missing from the map.... Then my comp got completely frozen
The game might still flicker ( black and white ) a little bit, but its better than nothing if you was to hyped by Windows 10 to wait.
My setup is
CPU: I7 930
GPU: AMD R9 290x
Windows 10 Home
AMD catalyst driver 15.7.1
I think the most important thing here is tweak your gpu settings as this the main thing that's causing issues ingame.
I now have a separate profile for EE on my driver software with a little different values. I also had to enable Direct3D Hardware TNL in the game settings as well as removing the checkboxes for vsync, hi-res -- ,shadows and clouds.
and dont forget

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
I guess it depends on your gfx card and driver version as well. Some people might not have issues at all. but i certainly had to tweak a lot to get it working properly

Re: Windows 10 - EE compatibility?
I finally decided to install win 10 myself, I was not disappointed!
Empire Earth worked! In fact, my in-game fps went up by about 50.
