New player

I'm a new player to this forum but very old to EE. I haven't played in a good 8 years but me and a friend who haven't played want to play it together. I just want to confirm that these servers are still active and we can use it to play together. I'm very happy to see a website dedicated to keeping this amazing relic of a game alive and I hope me and him will be able to play. Im asking this before we go buy the game and get our hopes up. My original copy is long gone lol. Any best stable place to obtain the game will be helpful too.
