Installing Lobby with Wine

Post by mücke »

Hi,

did anyone try to install the Lobby on linux distribution?

After fighting a bitter war against .NET framework on ubuntu and finally installing it, I recieve a simple error message when trying to install the EE Lobby. Some cans of beer didn't improve the situation at all :( The attachment contains my console output of wine + the detailed error message.

I use .NET framework 2.0, because 3.0 and 3.5 are currently not working.

Hope anybody has tried this before. Thank you in advance

Greetings mücke

edit: "Continue" of course doesnt chance anything. Error message disappears + the lobby gets stuck while obtaining smileys

Problems are occuring when trying to read information about your network adapter. Naturally, because VB.NET isn't cross-platform, the program won't be able to read that information on Ubuntu. I don't believe there's going to be any simple fix for this. I've already gotten my feet wet in porting the lobby to C++, but it's simply too large of a project since the GUI, engine, and network interface would have to be entirely rebuilt from scratch.
