[Ak]Middle sh Sword pathfinding/slavery

Post by ak_47 »

This civ is all about killing your opponents citizens, to make use of your slavery as much as possible, also pathfinding allows you to walk on trees and mountains, so if your enemies base has alot of forest/mountains, this will put you on a big advantage.

Slavery is bad. You won't be killing more than 10 of their citizens, if they're half-good, no matter *what* they're starting. That means your maximum citizen gain in the timeframe that matters is 4. Plus, if you've killed that many of their citizens using a normal pathfinding civilization, you're going to win unless you've had an epic failure of defending your economy, and with the extra massing capability as well as defensive buildings a normal pathfinding sword civ offers, defending your economy is even easier (or hurting theirs).

If they're using any decent sword civ, they're going to outmass you like crazy and leverage that advantage, decimating your economy way worse than you can get theirs (even accounting for the fact you can hide citizens in trees--of course, if they're a standard patfinding civilization all this still applies, but you *can't* even hide from them in trees), especially since they can use that numbers advantage to help defend as well. Good luck beating them then.

If they're cavalry archers, you can keep them off wood for awhile, but if they're smart they TCed a gold that's on wood at start, built 3 towers and houses on that, with the archery ranges right there, so good luck keeping them off wood for long with no ability to push inwards and kill more citizens or do any other damage without too many losses on your part, and no ability to camp the trees due to cavalry archers--they'll have a much better economy than you, be able to nearly match your sword production with CA due to your civs poor ability to mass, and then they'll crush you.

If they're knights, good luck getting much ecoing done, and again due to your inability to mass, and low boom ability without the boost from slavery, your two options of mix other units and match their boom as closely as possible, then outplay them for the win, and the usual mass swords and get an early hero then attack, are both not possible. You loose.

I think you'd be better off dropping slavery for building cost reduction and sword build time decrease. This allows you to mass swords much more effectively, thus giving you a chance at winning versus people who don't fail//who you don't have a great skill advantage over. It also allows you to have a bit better defense at your base.

Agreed with Omega (in both threads) that slavery is not worth it, especially in a double-power civ.
