Empire Earth.exe stopped working with gameranger

2 of 3 times I get "Empire Earth.exe has stopped working" when the game tries to launch with gameranger.
Anybody knows why that could be?
I don't have these problems with NeoEE.
I followed Arntzen's instructions to install EE for both NeoEE and GameRanger.
Operation system:
Windows 7

2 of 3 times? Does this mean it worked the first time and not anymore. or that it actually works 33% of the time?

it works about 33% of the time. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Also I have to start Empire Earth 2 times before it starts. When I look in the process explorer, i see 2 times empire earth.exe.

i had the same problem years ago, but after it crashes you can rejoin the game (if youre still in the room) and it boots.

Unfortunately I can't rejoin the game. If I try it will always give me the "Empire Earth.exe stopped working" error.
My impression is that Empire Earth is just having massive bugs because it's such an old game and there are various incompatibilities to the newer Windows versions.
I also played Empire Earth in an Internet cafe at several PCs, getting the same bugs. Just bugs and bugs and bugs...
Also every time I press the windows key while ee is opened my explorer crashes.
