King of the Hill - Ranking suggestion
So after casually playing another game called Bloons TD Battles I discovered their ongoing ranking/tournament called King of the Hill. At first glance it doesn't look pretty, but after thinking about it, it seems like a very good system. Mostly because it's active in a game with a small community and easily moderated.
Here is a link BTDB's KOTH: http://archive.ninjakiwi.com/Forum/show ... f-the-Hill
To make it as simple as possible, and to make it fit EE I made a suggestion to how the ranking/rules may be:
- Anyone can join KOTH. Message me on this forum, post comment in KOTH thread or message me and possibly other moderators of KOTH in NeoEE server.
- Three different classes of players: 1-15 is Noblemen, 16-45 are knights and 46+ are peasants.
- To move up in rank you have to challenge other players.
- If you want to challenge a peasant, he has to be up to 20 positions above you
- If you want to challenge a knight, he has to be up to 10 positions above you
- If you want to challenge a nobleman, he has to be up to 5 positions above you
- Peasant vs. peasant is best of 3
- Peasant vs. knight, knight vs. knight, knight vs. nobelman and nobelman vs. nobelman is best of 5
- Noblemen challenging the King are best of 7
- If challenging player wins, he moves to the position above the defending player.
- If defending player wins, no one changes rank. The defending player gets for beating a peasant, for beating a knight and for beating a nobleman.
- A player can have up to 2 series at the same time (against different players)
- If a player is unactive in KOTH for 2 weeks he is moved down 7 places, if he's unactive for 4weeks he is moved to the bottom.
- Players need to wait 3 days before being allowed to challenge same the player again.
RULES:
1. First game is played with Liga settings. (Up for suggestions here as well)
2. Looser choses next setting
3. No cheating/hacking
4. If one player disconnects, and for some reason there is not made a quicksave, the player that disconnects looses.
5. It is the winners responsibility to enter the result of the series and be able to prove it if necessary (take screenshots of every KOTH game if proof is needed).
6. One specific setting can only be played two times during a series (example: Mid sh)
I'm thinking we'll make seasons if this gets somewhat active.
What you guys think? Hopeless project or can this actually work? Suggestions are welcome.

Re: King of the Hill - Ranking suggestion
I think the majority would be reluctant to play 5 games unless they're near the top

3 is not much and this forces you to play atleast 3 sets.uIwehFx wrote:Sounds cool. But why making it best of 5 and not best of 3 ?
-edit-
maybe this system:
Peasant vs peasant: 1 game
Peasant vs knight: 3 games
knight vs nobleman: 5 games
noblemen vs nobleman or king: 7 games

Re: King of the Hill - Ranking suggestion
the question is tho, who's the first king, who are the first noblemen and who are the first knights?

would also agree that 5 games are alot to start with
if you actually want people to play it 3 sholud be enough, so sth like like lightness said colud be fine

Re: King of the Hill - Ranking suggestion
I think best of three for pesant vs pesant is better than just one game since then it's not just "who is best in liga" you can actually win by being best in two other settings. I think this will enourage players who aren't so strong in liga to play.
So, it seems everyone thinks best of 5 was too much, so I'll make to best of 3 for the lower ranked games.
Any other suggestions?
I was not sure if getting a , , or next to your nickname if you defended against certain ranks was an good idea or just stupid. I at least would like there to be some sort of badge or something that shows if a player has been defending his position, and also gives him more of reasons to accept challenges.
Speaking of, what kind of rules do we want for "accepting challenges"? Do we want it to be "if you're challenged you have no say in it, and have to accept and play" or can the player decline? If so, on what grounds?

I was just thinking as simple as "first player who joins KOTH will be the first king" etc. Won't take long for him too loose the throne if he isn't worth of it! Anyway, open for suggestions here as well!lightnessking. wrote:the question is tho, who's the first king, who are the first noblemen and who are the first knights?
