Are there ways to get more total islands in game? Which setting should be used to get as many islands as possible?

As far as I'm aware, the number of islands basically scales with the maptype and the map size. For the maximum number of islands you want to have small islands. On large islands you typically get 1 island per player, unless you go to the largest map sizes, type gigantic/huge which make the game quite different to play. I think small islands and a fairly large map will give you the highest number of individual islands.
